Giant Butterfly Stage

Hero

Giant Butterfly Stage was conceived as a 50-metre immersive stage environment designed to hold scale, movement, and atmosphere across a full festival program.

Main narrative

The concept centred on a monumental butterfly form that could read powerfully in daylight and then transform after dark into a high-energy audiovisual focal point. I led the design and delivery from concept through on-site execution, balancing sculptural impact, audience experience, and technical performance.

Technical delivery

  • Delivered a 50-metre stage build integrating structural steel, scenic fabrication, lighting, lasers, and pyro systems
  • Coordinated crane operations, EWP access, and staged installation workflows for safe, efficient delivery
  • Integrated show systems for lasers, pyro, and fireworks to align with programming and performer moments
  • Directed cross-disciplinary collaboration between builders, operators, and creative teams under live event deadlines

Creative/material section

The stage language combined bold geometric structure with wing-like sculptural surfaces that caught and reflected light across changing conditions. Materials and finishes were selected to hold form in full sun, then amplify colour, beam, and fire cues after dark.

Build/story section

From early CAD development through crane lifts and final commissioning, the project moved through complex on-site constraints with a clear production rhythm. Each build phase was planned to protect visual intent while staying practical for festival timelines and safety requirements.

Closing statement

Butterfly Stage demonstrates my ability to deliver large-scale immersive environments that are both visually iconic and technically reliable — from first concept to live audience impact.
